Osa Wild

DURATION: 9 DAYS |  TEAM SIZE: 5-8 JOYFUL SOULS |

At the heart of the Osa peninsula lies a precious emerald called Corcovado. This national park is famously labeled by the National Geographic as ‘the most biodiverse place on earth.’ Corcovado is the last great original tract of tropical rainforest in Pacific Central America. It’s wildlife includes scarlet macaws, tapirs, jaguars and squirrel monkeys. Hiking trails follow coastal and inland routes through habitats ranging from Pacific beaches and mangrove swamps to lowland and montane rainforests.

This adventure is guaranteed to challenge you in every possible way. Be sure to expect long distance hikes through very humid and dense tropical forests. Getting out of your comfort zone is key to experiencing this vibrant and exuberant habitat.

More than a compass or a map, it is the breath of the wind, the crashing roar of the waves, the advice of the Ceiba tree... they will show us which paths to follow. Join us in this journey and discover the natural treasures hidden deep inside some of the least known areas of the Osa Peninsula.

Crossing Corcovado National Park requires an optimal physical condition. However, like everything in Duruimity we can adapt the route according to the needs of each client.

We have different options for corcovado:

  • Full Expedition: Hike from Los Patos Ranger Station to Sirena Ranger Station which is the most biodiverse location open to the public. The hike is 18km (approx. 12 miles). Sleeping in Sirena has the advantage of the best sunrise hikes where we will immerse ourselves in one of the most biodiverse trails in America. The third day we will hike from Sirena to La Leona Ranger Station, this walk is 15km (approx. 10 miles) here you can see a wide variety of animals. For a estimated complete trajectory of (35 km+) hike.

  • 3 Days of Expedition: Hike from Los Patos Ranger Station to Sirena Ranger Station. The hike is 18km (approx. 12 miles). Next day you have a full day of hiking in Sirena. The third day the exit is by boat.

  • 2 Days of Expedition by boat: Sleep in Sirena is a must, for that reason alone we have created this option. The entry and exit is by boat.

  • 1 Day Expedition: If you are short on time, enjoying Sirena for a day will create memorable stories for years to come. The entry and exit is by boat.

Plus, the adventure “Corcovado Wild” includes other activities in Osa Peninsula like:

• Snorkeling in Caño Island.
• Zip-line.
• Special Waterfall Tour.
• Exploring the country’s largest remaining tract of Pacific tropical rainforest.
• Spotting all four of the country’s primate species in a single hike.
• Storytelling night + gratitude circle.
• Comprehensive Travel Planner with detailed pre-trip information.
• Small meditation exercises in order to be mindful in the adventure.

Highlights

One of the best wildlife-watching you will ever have in your life. The costal trails have two advantages: they are more open and the constant crashing of the waves covers the sound of noisy hikers. White-faced capuchin, red-tailed squirrel, collard peccary, tapirs, white-nosed coati and northern tamandua (anteater) are regularly seen on these trails.

Pairs of scarlet macaws are guaranteed as tropical almond trees lining the coast are a favorite food. The sections along the beach shelter mangrove black hawks by the dozens and numerous water birds. Certain trails attract low-land rainforest birds such as great curassow, chestnut-mandibled toucan, fiery billed aracari, turquoise coring and rufous piha; trogon, hummingbirds and wood creepers are plentiful. The wildlife in this park is astonishing to witness first hand.
